Clive Pearson – Our Supply Minister of the Word

Clive Pearson began a supply ministry at St Matthews on 1 December 2021. In the past he has done supply ministries with Crows Nest, Leigh Fijian, Parramatta Mission and the Southern Highlands. Back further in the past he was the minister of St NInian’s Presbyterian Church in Riccarton, Christchurch in Aotearoa New Zealand;  in between times he was Principal of the United Theological College in Parramatta and Head of School for the School of Theology, Charles Sturt University. Prior to ministry he worked with teenage boys placed in care by the courts in Glasgow and was second in charge of a hostel for alcoholics (and drug addicts  in Aberdeen.

Clive is married to Mary whom he met while working as a guide in the abbey on Iona in Scotland. Mary is also a minister and together they have one son, Andrew, who is married to Sasha.

Clive is committed to worship and pastoral care that engages with how the Christian faith seeks to understand its place in the world. He is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Public Theology. He is a theologian who has a particular interest in how the gospel relates to culture(s) and context, what happens to people’s understandings when they migrate, how we relate other faiths and climate change. He has done research and published in the field of the Christian faith and how it responds to pandemics and has needed to learn how to do ministry in the midst of lockdown and on zoom during this extended season of COVID-19.
